You cannot give what you do not have.
Have you ever heard of the orange fruit metaphor about its juice? Of cause you have. But in case you haven’t. It goes like this. Imagine you have a fresh succulent orange fruit, or maybe you have one already in your hand. You want to make juice from the orange so you squeeze the orange after the necessary preparations. As you squeeze the orange, orange juice will come out of the orange. This is a fact. You cannot get pineapple, grape, or any other juice other than orange juice. No matter how hard you squeeze the orange fruit or what technique or equipment you use to squeeze the orange, you will only get orange juice. The quality of the juice is purely dependent on the quality of the orange fruit.
In life, we cannot give what we do not have. If you want to give love to someone or others, you must first have this love within you. This applies to all the other things in life. To offer kindness, knowledge, principles, value among many other things, you must first have them. If you try harder to give what you do not have, you may succeed up to a certain point then experience some struggle because you are trying to retrieve from an empty store.
Just like the orange can only produce orange juice, we should as well understand we can only offer that which we have. To challenge ourselves to improve on the values we would like to offer by instilling the values within us first. To know that the quality of what we offer will be dependent on how much effort we have put in developing them within us first.
When you squeeze an orange, orange juice comes out because that’s what’s inside. When you are squeezed, what comes out is what is inside.Wayne Dyer
